Walkington Festival – 11th July | 10:00am – 12:30pm | Walkington Village Hall
Creating Walkington Pond Together
For this year's Walkington Festival, organised by Sherwood & Waudby Charity, I have created a special artwork inspired by one of the village's most loved landmarks — Walkington Pond.
The original painting captures the beauty of the pond, its wildlife, the surrounding trees, flowers, and peaceful atmosphere. What makes this artwork unique is that it has been divided into six separate panels. When placed together, these individual sections form one complete image of the pond.
This approach demonstrates a simple but powerful artistic technique: breaking a larger image into smaller, manageable pieces. By focusing on one section at a time, painting becomes more accessible, enjoyable, and achievable for everyone.

A Community Artwork
During this Community art workshop, each participant will create their own small tile inspired by Walkington Pond. Using a variety of art materials and techniques, every person will contribute a unique piece to a larger collaborative artwork.
The finished community piece will celebrate the creativity of local people and show how many individual perspectives can come together to create something beautiful.
Art for Everyone
This workshop has been designed to be inclusive and welcoming to people of all ages and abilities.
You do not need previous art experience to take part. Whether you are a complete beginner, an experienced artist, a child, an adult, or someone who simply enjoys being creative, there is a place for you in this project.
The aim is to encourage connection, creativity, confidence, and community through art. Every contribution matters, and every participant will help tell the story of Walkington Pond through their own artistic voice.
More Than One Creative Activity
The Walkington Pond collaborative artwork is just one of several creative activities that will be available during this community art workshop. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a variety of art exercises throughout the morning, making it a fun and engaging event for the whole family.
Children of all ages are warmly welcome, and parents or guardians are encouraged to join in the creative process. Please note that all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout the session.
Limited Edition Poster Available
To commemorate the project, a professionally designed Walkington Pond Art Poster has been created from the original artwork. The poster is available to order through the Happy Polka Art website and makes a wonderful keepsake of this special community event.
